Attila Gubacsi

Zensyokan (9th Dan) | Founder of Gubacsi Ryū – (10th Dan), Dhyāna Mahāchārya

Attila Gubacsi (born June 20, 1968) is a Hungarian martial artist, researcher, educator, and Zen–Budō teacher. A Kyokushin karateka , he is the Founder and Grandmaster of Gubacsi Ryū, an independent Zen–Budō lineage officially approved under the Zensyokan system. His work integrates traditional martial discipline with academic research, social responsibility, and Zen practice, emphasizing the unity of science, Budō, and spiritual realization.

Education, Research, and Academic Background

Gubacsi completed his higher education at Eötvös Loránd University, earning his first degree while simultaneously studying sociology. He later graduated from the Faculty of Humanities (BTK), Media Department, and continued his academic development with a professional scholarship in law and political science at the Janus Pannonius University of Pécs.
As a sociologist, his research focused on the social prospects of rural villages, scattered settlements, and farm communities in Hungary. He conducted parallel fieldwork along the Danube (Ordas region) and within the Tisza farm world, while also researching the restructuring of Hungarian media following the political change of regime. As a graduate sociologist, he contributed to analytical research groups preparing studies for commercial television networks.
This academic foundation later became a defining element of his Budō teaching, where research methodology, empirical inquiry, and spiritual discipline are treated as complementary paths.

Martial Path and Kyokushin Karate

Parallel to his academic career, Gubacsi committed himself to the disciplined path of martial arts, with Kyokushin Karate as his primary base. His approach emphasized not only physical conditioning and technical precision, but also ethical conduct, mental training, and inner cultivation.
In 2007, he earned his Kyokushin Shodan in Japan, marking a decisive milestone in his martial journey. His later development expanded beyond style boundaries, incorporating Kyusho, Zen-based training, and traditional Budō principles.

Social Responsibility – The HEGYEM Movement

In 2010, Gubacsi became the founding Executive Director of the Martial Artists for Healthy Children Movement (HEGYEM). The organization supports disadvantaged children through education, mentorship, physical training, and value-based community programs.
A central mission of HEGYEM is the transmission of Zen, Budō, and martial ethics to children, linking child protection, social integration, science, and spirituality.
