Neuro CARE
A Holistic Framework for Autism Inclusion, Research, Education, and Empowerment in Nepal
Introduction
Neuro CARE is an integrated and compassionate initiative dedicated to improving the lives of autistic and neurodiverse children, youth, and their families in Nepal. Rooted in the values of inclusion, dignity, evidence-based practice, and community collaboration, Neuro CARE brings together education, research, innovation, advocacy, and economic empowerment under one comprehensive framework.
Rather than functioning as a single program, Neuro CARE operates as an ecosystem of interconnected initiatives, each addressing different yet interrelated dimensions of neurodiversity support. Together, these initiatives work to ensure that autistic individuals are not only educated, but also understood, respected, supported, and empowered to thrive throughout their lives.
The Vision of Neuro CARE
Neuro CARE envisions a society where neurodiversity is recognized as a natural part of human variation and where autistic individuals have equal access to education, opportunity, and participation in community life.
This vision is guided by the following principles:
- Child-centered and ethical care
- Inclusive and accessible education
- Research-informed practice
- Community and family empowerment
- Sustainable pathways to independence and livelihood
Core Pillars of Neuro CARE
1. Autism Education & Research
At the foundation of Neuro CARE is the Autism Education & Research Department, established in September 2024. Originally formed as a sub-committee under the Ekikrit Enyu School Administration Committee, it has evolved into a dedicated department with a broader mandate that extends beyond a single institution.
This pillar focuses on:
Advising schools on inclusive education strategies and classroom adaptations
Conducting applied research on autism-friendly teaching methods
Supporting teachers through training, mentorship, and guidance
Promoting ethical, child-centered learning environments
Encouraging collaboration among schools and educational institutions
A significant milestone of this work was the relocation to a safer, sensory-aware learning environment with access to open space and outdoor play. This transition reflects Neuro CARE’s understanding that environment is a vital component of learning, emotional regulation, and well-being, particularly for autistic children.
2. Innovation, Skills, and Economic Empowerment – Project INSPIRE
Project INSPIRE (Integrated Neurodiversity Solutions for Pedagogy, Innovation, Research, and Empowerment) represents the innovation, skill development, and economic empowerment pillar of Neuro CARE.
INSPIRE responds to systemic barriers faced by autistic children and youth by bridging inclusive education, applied research, assistive technology, and livelihood pathways. Its work includes:
Development of autism-inclusive pedagogy and accessible learning materials
Context-specific research to inform policy and practice in Nepal
Design of affordable assistive tools and digital solutions
Skill development in arts, crafts, digital skills, vocational training, and life skills
Creation of micro-enterprises and supported employment opportunities
Through INSPIRE, Neuro CARE extends support beyond classrooms—empowering autistic youth to build confidence, develop independence, and participate meaningfully in economic and social life. The project aligns with national priorities and global development goals, offering a scalable and replicable model for autism-inclusive innovation in Nepal.
3. Advocacy, Compassion, and Community Support – Eifukuji Autism Care Committee
The Eifukuji Autism Care Committee, established in November 2024, represents the advocacy, compassion, and community-centered pillar of Neuro CARE.
Formed in response to school exclusion, discrimination, and limited access to services, the Committee operates as an independent social initiative while collaborating closely with educational and research institutions. Inspired by principles of compassion, loving-kindness, dignity, and inclusion, it works to:
Advocate for equal access to quality education for children with autism
Support families through parent networks and shared learning spaces
Raise public awareness and challenge stigma and harmful misconceptions
Promote inclusive values within communities, institutions, and policy spaces
By amplifying the voices of families and grounding action in lived experience, this pillar ensures that Neuro CARE remains deeply human-centered and socially responsive.
An Integrated Neuro CARE Model
Neuro CARE is defined by the integration of its pillars, forming a holistic and continuous support system:
- Education and research strengthen inclusive practice
- Innovation and skill development open pathways to independence
- Advocacy and community engagement ensure dignity, access, and acceptance
- Families and communities remain central to every intervention
Together, these elements create a continuum of neuro care that supports autistic individuals across educational, social, and economic dimensions.
Looking Ahead
Neuro CARE continues to evolve with a long-term commitment to:
- Strengthening research capacity and evidence-based advocacy
- Expanding inclusive education and professional training models
- Scaling innovation, skill development, and micro-enterprise initiatives
- Building strong national and international partnerships
- Contributing to systemic change in autism awareness, policy, and practice across Nepal
Neuro CARE is built on a simple yet powerful belief: meaningful change begins where we stand. By creating safe classrooms, listening to families, empowering educators, nurturing skills, and opening pathways to dignity and independence, Neuro CARE seeks to brighten the world—one child, one family, one community at a time. When care is guided by understanding and action is rooted in compassion, even small efforts can illuminate lives. Together, by brightening the world at our own corner, we move closer to a society where every neurodiverse individual is seen, valued, and given the space to shine.
