Autism Education & Research Department

Established: September 2024

Overview

The Autism Education & Research Department was established in September 2024 as a sub-committee under the Ekikrit Enyu School Administration Committee. What began as an internal initiative has since evolved into a dedicated department with a broader mandate—working collaboratively with other schools, institutions, and professionals to advance autism-inclusive education and research.
The department was created in response to a growing need for structured support, research-based practices, and inter-school collaboration to better serve autistic children within and beyond the school system.

Purpose and Scope of Work

The core purpose of the Autism Education & Research Department is to advise, support, and strengthen educational practices for autistic children through research, consultation, and practical intervention.
The department’s work includes:

  • Advising schools on inclusive education strategies and classroom adaptations
  • Conducting applied research on autism-friendly teaching methods
  • Supporting teachers through training and guidance
  • Collaborating with other schools to promote shared learning and best practices
  • Advocating for safe, ethical, and child-centered learning environments

Through this work, the department seeks to bridge gaps between theory and practice while promoting evidence-based and compassionate approaches to autism education.

Creating a Safer and More Supportive Learning Environment

One of the most significant milestones in the department’s journey was the decision to relocate to a new learning space designed specifically to meet the needs of autistic children.
Previously, children were learning within a small, confined, and unsafe area with limited outdoor access. Recognizing the impact of environment on sensory regulation, emotional well-being, and learning outcomes, the department undertook the challenging task of moving to a new location with a wide, open playground.
This transition was not easy. It required careful planning, resource mobilization, and a strong commitment from educators and supporters. However, the move proved transformative—providing children with:

  • Safer physical surroundings
  • Open space for movement and sensory regulation
  • Opportunities for play-based and experiential learning

A calmer, more comfortable environment tailored to their needsThe relocation stands as a reflection of the department’s belief that environment is an essential part of inclusive education, especially for autistic children.

Collaboration Beyond One School

As the department grew, its role expanded beyond Ekikrit Enyu School. It now functions as a collaborative hub, working with other schools and educational institutions to:

  • Share research findings and practical tools
  • Support inclusive classroom implementation
  • Encourage cross-institutional dialogue on autism education

By engaging with a wider network, the department aims to contribute to systemic change rather than isolated success.

Looking Ahead

The Autism Education & Research Department continues to grow with a clear vision—to support autistic children through research-informed education, safe environments, and collaborative practice.
Moving forward, the department plans to strengthen its research capacity, expand advisory services, and deepen partnerships with schools and organizations that share a commitment to inclusion.
Through dedication, learning, and collaboration, the department remains focused on creating educational spaces where autistic children feel safe, respected, and empowered to thrive.
Inclusive education begins with understanding, care, and the courage to create better spaces for every child.
